Which language is more difficult to learn, Spanish or English?
There are many different factors that come into play here, including the quality of material used, the impact of culture, and the age at which you begin to learn the language, and I’m sure there are many other factors….but right now, I’m only going to focus on the number of verb forms.
The fact is that the Spanish language has many more verb forms than English. However, the English language has ways to say the exact equivalents of all of these Spanish verb forms!
So yes, I think it’s difficult for an English speaker to learn all these (Spanish) verb forms. But I think it is also difficult for a Spanish speaker to learn how to say all of these equivalents, using only the 3 English verb forms.
But I don’t know, so I invite you to test yourselves: do you know how to say all of these Spanish verb forms in English?
If not, I recommend my “Conversation Patterns”!
So which language is more difficult? Well, I think they’re both difficult, rich languages! The quality of material used, the impact of culture and the age at which you begin to learn are among the most important factors, but I do not think that the number of verb forms is an important factor, since it’s difficult to say the equivalents in both languages.
