HORRIBLE EDUCATIONAL VOCABULARY MISTAKES
Class is now in session.
Now class, I’m afraid I have some very serious, terrible, and shocking news to share with you.
Yes, it’s come to my attention that many of you are making awful and embarrassing mistakes regarding educational English vocabulary.
It’s just completely horrible!
Some of you say, “My 3-year-old goes to a kindy.” How embarrassing!
“My 5-year-old goes to pre-school.” No!
“My 14-year-old goes to a college near here.” Oh, my God!
Now let me make this clear: all of these are wrong. They’re wrong!
OK, so now, class, pay attention! What is correct?
The correct one is: “jardín de infantes” is “pre-school”.
“Pre-escolar” is “kindergarten”.
“Colegio” is “school”.
All of those are correct. So…
Here is your chance class, to redeem yourselves, and be good students. Here is your test.
We’re going to correct those sentences. Finish these sentences for me, please:
“My 3-year-old goes to a….”
“….pre-school.” That is correct.
“My 5-year-old goes to….”
“…kindergarten.” That is correct.
“My 14-year-old goes to a…”
“…school near here.” OK, that’s correct.
Well, once you understand all of this, my work here is done.
